The Poker Gazette: “Ladies, it’s your time to shine! LIPS Tour”
San Diego, CA – October 2004 – Ladies International Poker Series (LIPS Tour) successfully launches the first poker tour exclusively for women poker players, the LIPS Tour.
With the rapid growth of poker interest around the world, it’s only natural women will stand up and be counted! Poker was traditionally thought of a man’s game, it’s no longer the case. Women are as capable of serious poker gaming as anyone. With the introduction of Internet gaming, women are learning and playing poker at both the beginner and advances levels. Online poker, is an excellent way for women to learn poker. You can find free money games and micro limit games available 24 hours a day. Women just starting out find playing online a comfortable way to introduce themselves to the game and often will have played online before venturing out to a local card room or casino to play. There is also support for women to learn poker and play with other women through online poker clubs.
Lupe Soto, opened the first poker club online exclusively for women called Poker Chix. She has been involved in online poker clubs for several years partnering in Victory Poker and Go All In poker clubs. She soon realized many women were intimidated playing against men. From new players, to advanced players, women have a home to share stories, tactics and strategies, and play against other women in a comfortable, friendly and yet competitive environment. Membership is free, with opportunities to play poker in free money games and real money games for all skill levels.
“Women love poker! Playing online lets women play without bias. When I first started playing, I used a man’s screen name so men wouldn’t know I was a woman. But, soon I proudly displayed my ‘BettinGal’ name as my skill levels improved! I recognize that it’s a process… and that’s when it hit me, other women must feel the same way!” Soto shared.
Poker Chix is a repository for any casino, live or online that wishes to publicize their ‘Ladies Only Tournaments’. A calendar of events is posted so women can plan on attending. Poker Chix has partnered with the LIPS Tour (Ladies International Poker Series Tour) as the membership and discussion forum aspects of the tour. The LIPS Tour, located at http://www.LIPSTour.com will conduct both live and online tournaments leading to a Grand Championship event in April 2005.
“There is no better gateway for women to enter the poker arena than Ladies Only Poker Tournaments,” said Susie Isaacs, Two Time World Series of Poker Ladies Champion.
Casinos such as Bicycle Casino, Ocean’s 11 Casino, Normandie Casino, VictoryPoker.com, CheckNRaisePoker.com, AlohaPoker.com, and many more support women in poker. Each casino will host a Ladies Only Tournament and sponsor their winner to the LIPS Grand Championship and at the World Series of Poker Ladies Event in 2005.
The LIPS Tour has completed their first tour stops successfully. Ironically, 204 ladies played at both the Ocean’s Eleven Casino and Canterbury Park Racetrack and Card Club in September. Winners Jacelyn Dawn Palmer and Ruby Lewinson have both won their entries into the LIPS Championship and the Ladies WSOP event representing their prospective casinos.
Soto states “To see 400+ women playing in a tournament is amazing! The competition is fierce, but the encouragement from other players never waivers. I’m proud to be a part of the first poker tour for women and very excited to see the overwhelming support from the poker world!”
