Land Based Poker vs Online Poker

Play Online Poker

Many players are faced with a decision: to play land based casino poker, or play at an online poker room. We compare the two choices and look at the similarities and differences.

The poker game – be it Texas Hold’Em, Omaha, 5 Card or 7 Card Stud – is essentially the same whether you play online or at a land based casino poker.

The rules are typically the same online as they are in a brick and mortar casino card room. However, there are some points of etiquette that vary because of the different playing environments. For example, in a casino poker room it is considered rude to ‘splash the pot’, throwing your chips in so that the pot is scattered. Online, since the computer controls chip movements, this simply is not an issue.

Casino poker rooms may have unusual features, such as ‘kill games’, special promotional rules or different blinds. Both casino poker rooms and online poker rooms offer promotions and jackpots such as a high hand bonus or the bad beat bonus. Both may also have loyalty programmes, where your raked hands played can earn you rewards, such as free entry into tournaments.

The biggest difference is convenience – you can play at an online poker room from your own home, rather than traveling.
